LGBT activists
Partership example: Running LGBT trainings with All Out for activists from Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria
All Out is a global LGBT network with over 2 million supporters around the world that organizes social media actions to gather support for emerging issues of violated LGBT rights and freedoms. In collaboration with All Out, we produced a series of training for LGBT activists from Kenya, Uganda, and Nigeria who were capacity built in basic campaign strategy, creative and digital campaigning, storytelling, fundraising and digital security.
As a result of the trainings, the LGBT youth gained:
- The knowledge, skills, and attitudes to plan, strategize and execute a creative and targeted campaign, in order to effect meaningful change in their communities.
- Increased understanding of the power of advocacy and the relevance of human rights framework to address social injustice.
- Increased confidence and skills as community leaders to gather support and be agents of social change by working together with their community members and likeminded organisations.
- The network of a diverse group of dedicated and experienced activists in Kenya, Uganda, and Nigeria who share the same struggle, learn from each other in a safe space and offer support in solidarity across countries.
“This series of capacity development workshops has trained LGBT activists in Uganda, Kenya and Nigeria in critical digital and campaigning skills. But it has also created vibrant new cross-national networks and empowered our partners to work more effectively together.”
